  • 1.  Desire to be accepted. Teenageres start smoking because their friends smoke.  Desire to break the rules. Young people want to be indipendent and “do” what they can’t do.  Desire to be similar to adults. When they smoke, teenagers feel like adults.  Desire to be “cool”. Teenagers begin smoking for fun or to be derirable.
  • 2. Teens usually start smoking between the age of 13 and 18, but hardly even after the age of 20: this means that there is a difference between the “teenage mind” and the “adult mind”.
  • 3. The teeanage mind isn’t rational and the difference can be expressed whit this two example: - Teenage way of thinking: “Most of my friends smoke and if I don’t start I want to be cool enough.” - Andult way of thinking: “Even if most of my friends smoke, I don’t really care.”
  • 4. Adults reason before making choices, teenagers usually don’t. The real problem is that smoking causes addiction and adult smokers really want to be quit because smoking is one of the main causes of lung cancer. They also realize how diffucult it is to stop. Yet, teenagers seem to disgregard what they are told about smoking and give more importance to “being cool”.
  • 5. In conclusion, if you start smoking as a teenagers you risk adopting an addictive habit that is unwanted, unhealthy and expensive.
