OpenAds, an open-source software application for serving ads, just received $5 million in Venture Capital in order to build an advertising network to compete with Google.

Yahoo, Miva, LookSmart and many other search engines are also positioning themselves to enter this market space. I am expecting to see much more affordable advertising channels and higher publisher revenues as competition heats up.
Keep an eye out as this will likely provide early adopters of the new networks with profitable channels for selling our wares.
